"Game Of Shadows" debuts at #3

Despite all the press in the world, the baseball/steroid scandal book Game Of Shadows debuts at #3 on the nonfiction bestseller list. Debuting at #2 is American Theocracy by Kevin Phillips, which warns against a grab bag of ills: religious zealotry, our oil addiction and our massive debt (both public and private). The Da Vinci Code reigns atop the fiction list, and presumably he'll own the top spot on the paperback list as well next week when the sales for the PB edition register. They released the PB in both mass market (the small version) and trade paperback which is more expensive. I'd be the mass market would sell better but they stacked the deck by discounting the trade version 20% off, though that means it was still $4 more than the mass market at Barnes & Noble. (One of my big bugaboos is the lack of cheap, mass market editions of most books.)
