What's Your Favorite Bond Film?

The BBC critics weigh in. My choice is "Goldfinger" -- the best theme song (with "Live and Let Die" a close second), Sean Connery, and a plot that stamped the franchise with the Bond formula we know and love once and for all. (Mind you, I've never seen "On Her Majesty's Secret Service.")

Most people have never seen On Her Majesty's Secret Service, thanks to George Lazenby. It's a must! A great film, with some of the best action sequences in any Bond film. Watch it now!

Netflix! They must have HMSS, right?

I've always like From Russia With Love and Thunderball, but Goldfingers was great too.

I should really preview these posts.

"I've always liked From Russia With Love and Thunderball, but Goldfinger was great too."

I like Goldfingers even better than Goldfinger. Ed, your "I always liked..." one-liners are growing on me. But I actually always DID like Shirley Bassey; subtlety was never my passion. And I KNOW I should watch OHMSS; I've just been waiting for the right moment. Certainly Netflix has it, Joe. But mr NYCD, is Lazenby the weak link in the most dramatic, emotional, realistic Bond or has he been unfairly maligned? By the way, I'm seeing the NEW Bond Sunday night. Jealous?

By the way, if "What's Your Favorite Bond Film?" didn't inspire a few postings, I was gonna retire this blog. If that doesn't get a response, I really was talking to myself. Though I must admit I'm disappointed NYCD didn't say something about my U2/greatest hits item.

I've always liked not commenting on U2 hits packages.

OK, first--Lazenby's weakest link is simply his looks. He's not as sexy as Connery, or even Roger Moore. But he is still an excellent "Bond." I might have been jealous over you seeing "Casino Royale," if I had not seen one the greatest films of the last 5 years last night. I am still high from it. (can u guess?)

As for U2--no one should be without "Achtung Baby," which is barely represented on any of the hits packages. As single discs collections go, this upcoming set is damn good. But certain artists just cannot be represented by one or even two CDs. U2 is one of those bands.

And since you asked, "Diamonds Are Forever" is my fave.

By the way, I meant to say Tomorrow Never Dies was my favorite Brosnan. I've changed it in the posting. Those titles do tend to blend from recent years --which is telling. I'd never confuse Goldfinger w From Russia W Love. Oone of the greatest films from the last five years and you're still HIGH from it? If it's in theaters, I'll guess Borat or Half Nelson. As for U2, you're certainly right that U2 is an album artist and no one could get a GH by them and be done. You need Achtung Baby and Joshua Tree much more than a GH. Elton John and Madonna and all of Motown and many other artists can be captured definitively in GH packages. But still, even an album artist like U2 and Springsteen can deliver a GH set that presents them in a new light or reaches out to casual fans in a smart, well-chosen way. "Christ I'm Loud" could be an endless list -- but Shirley Bassey would be right at the top.
