Check out my weekly DVD review column in the NY Post for brief reviews of
The Best of Youth (my favorite film of the year),
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Elizabethtown, and
The Best of "The Electric Company." And yes, I know
Best of Youth is six hour and not six and a half hours long. (As a former fact checker, I hate mistakes like that.)
Yes, it was heavy on close-ups a la TV. But I was so engrossed in the story, I didn't find it a problem. The acting was so good, and I believed all of them as aging convincingly over decades, which is hard to do. Of course, now it's on DVD and it plays great there, especially given the running time and as you say its limited visual style. What was on your best of the year list?
