For people who ask "What are your favorite movies?" -- here's the answer. Yes, I know you can argue about which year certain movies belong to (especially films from other countries), but the point is not to make an historical record but just to list some great movies you might want to check out. I start with my top pick from each year as a sort of über list. No, it's not the most "important" movie of that year, just the one that meant the most to me either at the time or today -- and most often at the time and today. Some years the choice was easy, other times a few battled it out or I didn't feel strongly enough about one particular film to make a statement.
