DVDs Lost and Found
A new batch of DVDs out today, including "Talladega Nights" (which is pretty darn funny and surprisingly gay friendly, sort of, for a flick geared towards NASCAR fans), a bundled collection of the entire "Andy Griffith Show" and Meryl Streep's marvelous performance in "The Devil Wears Prada," a comedy only a step or two away from being truly memorable. Dave Kehr of the NYT delivers thoughtful reviews of "Bugsy" and two Bernardo Bertolucci movies. But I take issue with his quick comment that "Talladega Nights" has fun at the expense of NASCAR-loving rubes. Not at all: their humor is funny and knowing but essentially endearing. If they were mocking NASCAR, the humor would be very different and probably not as amusing. (What's the point of mocking something you despise?) T%he fans got the joke and knew the spirit in which it was delivered and loved it. Finally, USA Today has a very truncated story on movies still MIA from DVD. Any films you've been dying to see that just haven't come out yet? My thoughts turn immediately to TV, where I'm still waiting for "I'll Fly Away" to start getting the full season treatment, along with "The Wonder Years" (a music clearance nightmare) and a lot of others.

How about the Director's Cut (3 hour version) of the 2002 version of The Four Feathers. I'd seriously pay $200 for a copy right now!
You want the rough cut of the film. When movies are screened early on, they're often in three or even four hour very rought cuts. But we have no stories of the director crafting a final cut of the film at three hoiurs and then having it taken away. Maybe that happened, but the story hasn't gotten out yet. All we know is that you really liked the version you saw and they screwed the pooch by reducing it to two hours.
Quick Change is available on DVD; at least Netflix has it in stock and I've rented it from them. Quite a funny film, but not one of my absolute favorite Bill Murray movies. I know everyone will say Caddyshack, but I'd go with What About Bob and Groundhog Day first.
What about "The Larry Sanders Show?" HBO put out the first season of that comedy gold mine years ago and then just stopped.
Mr. waturi, Now & Again was definitely a squandered opportunity. Truly original. Quick Change is indeed available. I own it myself. A very funny, droll little movie (I love Philip Bosco's bit as a very punctual bus driver). Pete, what about Ghostbusters? And anonymous, there are many shows with just one season out or poorly done seasons like The Cosby Show (which had edited syndicated versions and no extras). The Larry Sanders Show is absolutely one that deserves a full release. I don't know if it's legal hangups or what, since Shandling and the exec prod/manager of his were feuding for years. Also, his show on Showtime deserves a proper release.
