Norman Mailer Writes About Hitler's Childhood In New Novel

But "The Castle In The Forest" -- due out January 23 -- isn't what has people up in arms. It's Mailer's inclusion of a bibliography, citing some 126 different books and writers that influenced or informed this work. Pompous, smart legal tactic or just friendly hey-I-didn't-do-this-all-on-my-own gesture? I'm not sure.

By the way, in writing this posting, I drew upon my love of Proust's "Remembrance of Things Past," the novelty bestseller "The Book Of Lists," The New York Times, Amazon.com, and -- as always -- the beloved comic strip "Krazy & Ignatz."

As I clicked on the comment, I suddenly flashed to the idea that you had written the comment and would say "I always liked Hitler." Thanks for keeping me guessing.

I never liked Hitler either, but I did like this novel. It's a gasser.
