"Crash" Launches Massive Oscar Campaign

For the first time in history, a studio is sending out screeners of one film to every single member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Writers Guild. According to Variety, that means Lions Gate will giftwrap more than 130,000 copies of "Crash" to Oscar voters. Since half of SAG seems to be in the film anyway -- the racially-charged LA drama features Matt Dillon and Ryan Phillippe as the sexiest cop team since "CHiPs," as well as Sandra Bullock, Thandie Newton, Don Cheadle and many others -- they may be preaching to the choir. Typically, sending out some 15,000 copies would be considered a big push. So anyone thinking "Brokeback Mountain" is a lock should think again.
