SOUNDTRACKS

Note: As a reminder, these are reviews of the soundtrack, of what it's like to sit down and listen to these particular albums. It does not speak to how well a score might work in a film. A classic example: Jaws. It's an absolutely brilliant score in the film. But the signature spooky music pales after a few minutes listened to on its own and the album as a whole is not worth your time. In general, a great score/soundtrack can work well on its own. But not always! Also, soundtracks are lost in a black hole during the streaming era. Too many rights issues to clear up? Too many different copyright holders? Classic soundtracks can be found...but are often missing key tracks or most of the songs. Even classic bestsellers like American Graffiti (with its scene-setting use of Wolfman Jack as deejay) and Urban Cowboy and even recent Quentin Tarantino soundtracks are missing in action. Distressing. 

Most soundtracks not streaming can be found on CD, albeit as used copies many of the time. Often you can stream missing soundtracks via YouTube, which means your listening is usually interrupted by ads, but at least it's legal!
