Wii Kicking PlayStations 3's Butt In Japan
The Nintendo game system Wii is outselling the PlayStation 3 model 2 to 1 in the highly competitive market of Japan. Sony can come up with all sorts of excuses -- PS3 will do better in the long run, Wii is a gimmick, the US market will favor PS3 because they have bigger TVs that show off the graphics better and so on. But this is bad news. Sony needs a big hit product AND they need PS3 to be the Trojan horse that puts their Blu-Ray DVD over the top in fighting HD-DVD. Even if Blu-Ray ultimately triumphs, the quicker it does so, the better. And weak sales from PS3 delay that.
