Far Right Lies About "South Park" Boycott

Recently, the American Family Association lied about their boycott of Ford. They claimed to have scored a huge victory in getting Ford to agree with their bigotry and change its policy of advertising in gay magazines. According to AMERICAblog and others, that lie blew up in their face when Ford said the AFA was lying and that they'd start running ads touting all their cars (a first) in magazines like The Advocate.

Now, the New York Post is reporting that the religious right has lied about another boycott they claim was successful. The radical Catholic League and others had complained about a "South Park" episode in which a statue of the Virgin Mary bleeds from her nether regions. (Hey, sounds offensive; maybe you shouldn't watch "South Park" if you're easily offended and turn on one of the 200 other channels available to cable subscribers.)

The Catholic League simply lied and said Comedy Central had pulled the show from repeats. In fact, it was kept out of a marathon that aired over the holidays for obvious reasons. But they insist it has appeared as a repeat on the normal schedule, will continue to be repeated and will certainly be available on DVD down the road. According to the NY Post, their press release stated:

"Despite misleading claims from those who would like to claim victory, we have not permanently shelved the 'Bloody Mary' episode from future airings due to outside pressure, nor will we exclude it from future DVD releases," the letter stated.

"We appreciate your concerns about the potential influences of outside special interest groups on the media and entertainment industries, and particularly Comedy Central."

Gee, I guess if your bigoted boycotts don't work, the next best thing to do is lie about them.
