Now, the New York Post is reporting that the religious right has lied about another boycott they claim was successful. The radical Catholic League and others had complained about a "South Park" episode in which a statue of the Virgin Mary bleeds from her nether regions. (Hey, sounds offensive; maybe you shouldn't watch "South Park" if you're easily offended and turn on one of the 200 other channels available to cable subscribers.)
The Catholic League simply lied and said Comedy Central had pulled the show from repeats. In fact, it was kept out of a marathon that aired over the holidays for obvious reasons. But they insist it has appeared as a repeat on the normal schedule, will continue to be repeated and will certainly be available on DVD down the road. According to the NY Post, their press release stated:
"Despite misleading claims from those who would like to claim victory, we have not permanently shelved the 'Bloody Mary' episode from future airings due to outside pressure, nor will we exclude it from future DVD releases," the letter stated.Gee, I guess if your bigoted boycotts don't work, the next best thing to do is lie about them.
"We appreciate your concerns about the potential influences of outside special interest groups on the media and entertainment industries, and particularly Comedy Central."

Hmm, Christmas poo versus bleeding Virgin Mary? Perhaps it's a tie.
