"Hoodwinked" -- The New "Reservoir Dogs?"

Check out my short New York Post feature on "Hoodwinked," the new animated flick that puts a "Shrek"-like spin on Little Red Riding Hood. The movie was made for a remarkably cheap $15 million (at most). Remember when people sat up straight when "Ice Age" was made for $60 million (and went on to easily gross $500 million worldwide once you added in DVD sales)? "Hoodwinked" shows its low cost (Red's cape flutters behind her none-too-convincingly.) But as director Cory Edwards points out, that doesn't matter if the characters are convincing and the jokes funny. (The trailer gets a big laugh when a tree in the forest crashes to the ground and two turtles yell "Run!" before it hits and then slowly, slowly start to move long after the tree has landed.

This movie has already received decent reviews and with a silly trailer, family appeal and the marketing muscle of the Weinstein Company, I'm betting it will make back its budget on opening weekend. What do you think?
