"A Chorus Line" -- The First Reviews

The San Francisco Chronicle has just reviewed the out-of-town revival of "A Chorus Line" which is coming to Broadway in a few months. The show has been gone for 16 years but it's hardly a slam dunk. The "shocking" elements of the show (like one character coming out) wouldn't raise an eyebrow today. But as the reviewer points out, the elimination of cast members one by one may not seem heartlessly cruel the way it did back in the 70s, but thanks to "Survivor" and "American Idol," it is something mainstream audiences are deeply familiar with if not downright excited about. Sure, it's commonplace, but people love it. The songs are still great and Charlotte d'Amboise sounds like a great Cassie. All in all it sounds very promising. And if the Public will still rake in dough from the revival, I hope it runs for years. At least the break-even should be low: how much can those mirrors cost?
