Weekend Box Office -- "Talladega" Holds Off "Step Up"

"Step Up" looked like it would pass "Talladega Nights" at the box office, but Ricky Bobby stayed in the front of the pack. But next week it'll be lapped by "Snakes On A Plane." That enough racing imagery for ya? In limited release, "Little Miss Sunshine" is tearing it up and is going to go REALLY wide in a few weeks. They're expecting it to hit $30 mil to $60 mil now, which would be a big hit for a low budget Sundance fave like that. On two screens, "Half Nelson" was very strong. And if I didn't mention it before, go see that movie. Ryan Gosling is terrific. My big disappointment is that the well-reviewed horror flick "The Descent" didn't show better legs. You'll love it on DVD. Finally, overseas, "Pirates is still a monster. In the US it's about to hit $400 mil. Worldwide, it's about to pass "Find Nemo" as Disney's top-grossing movie of all time. Here is Box Office Prophets top 10.

1. Talladega Nights -- $23 mil ($91.2 mil total)
2. Step Up -- $21.1 mil
3. World Trade Center -- $19 mil ($26.8 mil total)
4. The Barnyard -- $10.1 mil ($34.1 mil)
5. Pulse -- $8.5 mil
6. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest -- $7.2 mil ($392.4 mil total)
7. Zoom -- $4.6 mil
8. The Descent -- $4.6 mil ($17.5 mil total)
9. Miami Vice -- $45. mil ($55.1 mil total)
10. Monster House -- $3.3 mil ($63.7 mil)
