Overnight TV Ratings

The Olympics are doing fine for NBC, but there's no question it's remarkable to see them beat by regular episodes of shows like Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy. The trend continued Tuesday night with American Idol drawing 26.3 million viewers and House garnering 20.1 million. The Olympics averaged 18.5 million for the night, though it did manage to barely squeeze by House from 9 to 10 p.m. Barely.

It's the tape delay. 20 years ago we were held captive by the networks for Olympics coverage, but now we can get updates on 24 hour cable news stations or a couple clicks on the internet. It's a sports themed TV show and nothing more. Hook me up with full matches of hockey or curling and I'll tune in for a few hours.

How did Lost do?

The brief rundown by Hollywood Reporter didn't give info on Lost. My regular source for free overnight ratings -- mediaweek -- is on a brief hiatus.
