Naguib Mahfouz Near Death

The Egyptian winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature is seriously ailing and could die soon. Naturally, as an intellectual, Mahfouz is hated by the far right extremists and was stabbed a few years ago -- at age 94! The Middle East has very far to go when writers are so feared.
