Weekend Box Office: "Brokeback" Steady

Box Office Prophets has the early predictions for the four day weekend. The best news is that "Brokeback Mountain held steady, adding nearly $7 million and hitting about $30 mil total. (The Times of London has a nice piece on gay rodeos.) Expect it to go gangbusters during the week if it snags the top awards at the Globes on Monday.
1. Glory Road -- $15.8 mil
2. Hoodwinked -- $13.9 mil
3. Hostel -- $12.5 mil
4. Last Holiday (the Queen Latifah vehicle) -- $11 mil
5. Fun With Dick & Jane/Narnia -- about $10 mil each
BOP foolishly calls "Hoodwinked" a bomb at nearly $14 mil. But as I reported earlier, this CGI comedy cost less than $15 mil to make. That means it earned back its budget on the opening weekend, a terrific result. Even if it collapses quickly, the film should hit $25 mil and look forward to great results on DVD sell-through. Expect a sequel.
