Will "Crash" Win The Best Picture Oscar?

GoldDerby's Tom O'Neil says yes. And Monkeyboy says O'Neil -- as usual -- is dead wrong. Certainly, "Crash" could be a spoiler for "Brokeback Mountain." But so could "Good Night And Good Luck," "Capote," "Walk The Line" or even "King Kong."

But to make his case, Monkeyboy grunts in anger, O'Neil has to dig all the way back to 1973's "The Sting." "Crash" is a genuine word-of-mouth hit, but it's a "dark" little movie. "The Sting" was sheer delight, pairing two of Hollywood's biggest stars in one of its biggest hits of all time -- hardly a valid comparison. And the closest example comes from 30 years ago? Couldn't O'Neil find an example from the '30s to make his case?

Unlike Monkeyboy, I'll give "Crash" credence as a spoiler for one reason: I hated the movie and it would be the most annoying victor Oscar could find. The Academy has a gift for that sort of frustration. But the only thing Oscar likes more than being annoying is being obvious, so I hold tight to the belief that "Brokeback Mountain" wins Picture and Director.
