Our friends at The Strip who blog and podcast from Las Vegas have some good stories this week. First, they've got the audio from a press conference touting "Spamalot's" opening on the Strip. With "Avenue Q" closing early and some other shows not catching fire, Eric Idle and King Arthur John O'Hurley (will he be the next host of "The Price is Right?") amusingly donwplay any expectations of success whatsoever.
I didn't realize it, but the guys at The Strip also tell me actors have been wary of going to Vegas for work. They felt the credits might seem weaker than a national tour and feared they would be off the radar when it came to new Broadway shows. Hence the excitement over the good news: The Strip broke the news that actress Sierra Boggess -- one of two actresses playing Christine in "The Phantom of the Opera" there -- will play Ariel in the new Broadway musical "The Little Mermaid." (It takes over for "Beauty and the Beast," which closes in June.) And of course they've spoken with Austin Miller, who starred in the Vegas "Hairspray" and is one of the finalists on the "Grease" reality show. Check them out.
