Clay Aiken Catches Up With Rod Stewart

it took Rod Stewart about 40 years before he finally started churning out cover albums, first of pop standards and now classic rock tunes. Barry Manilow probably wished he'd thought of it sooner and is now jumping from the 50s to the 60s, with the 70s and 80s surely not far behind. Former "American Idol" Clay Aiken (who does have some pipes, I'll boldly say) isn't going to waste any time. Aiken's second proper pop album has four oringals and a LOT of covers: including Paul YOng's "Everytime You Go Away," Bryan Adams' "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)," Foreigner's "I Want To KNow What Love Is," Mister Mister's "Broken Wings" (Man, is this album gonna drag) and -- in a tacit admission that he's gay -- Celine Dion's "Because You Love Me" AND a slowed-down version of Dolly Parton's "Here You Come Again." (I'm actually sort of curious to hear that.) Now if only he'd come out, Aiken would be a lot more interesting.

THE interesting slow cover of Dolly's "Here You Come Again" was done by Maureen McGovern on her "State of the Heart" CD. I am betting Clay does a rip off of this version.
