Ricky Gervais To Write For US "Office"

Further proof that the US version of the brilliant UK sitcom The Office has found its own way is the news that creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant will write an original script for the US version next season. Writing an episode of The Simpsons and appearing on that iconic show was a bigger thrill for Gervais (who has also popped into Alias), but this amounts to a blessing of the new show and as friendly a way imaginable for him to say, "Well done." Mind you, it still isn't a patch on the original.

Well, I think it was more just hands-off. They'd done their thing and certainly didn't want to write 24 episodes of a show -- tha would kill the Brits, who put out six episodes and then go on vacation for a year. But yes, he was always polite about the American one -- saying they'd made it their own -- without seeming to shill for it.
