Weekend Movie Sneak Peek

Will "World Trade Center" be hurt by the arrests of terrorists plotting another attack via airlines? I don't see why; it makes the movie more timely, rather than a reminder of a sad event from the past. But I've got my eye on "Step Up," a silly dance movie that has guilty pleasure written all over it. Check out the predictions of Box Office Prophets.

Michael, I was going to go see the movie but after I read that the religious right raved about it, I have now decided against it.

Well, I wouldn't let them influence you one way or the other. They might like a movie or TV show for the wrong reason (or even the right reason) but it doesn't mean it's good or bad, just that they like it. Shouldn't you give confirmed leftie Oliver Stone the benefit of the doubt rather than let the far right keep you away from one of his movies? Not that I'm speaking up for the movie; I'm not. But their track record as cultural critics (movies, tv, books, music) is so hapless it would be like avoiding a film just because your dog barked when you said the movie's name. What does the one have to do with the other? Nothing.
