"Gilmore Girls' Creator Is Gone

Is this good news or bad news? Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband have left "Gilmore Girls" after failing to come to a deal with the new CW network for a seventh season. The show will go on, but they are gone. Normally, when the creator of a series takes off, it is bad news. But since "Gilmore Girls" has gone so far astray (I don't think the characters from season two would even recognize themselves today), maybe this is GOOD news. Maybe they can recharage their batteries and get back to what made the show special -- likeable characters with quick-witted dialogue -- and avoid the soap opera plotlines and the rut of thinking Lorelai must remain bitter at her parents, Rory must be a pill, Michel must remain closeted, etc.

I don't think they've gone astray as much as they've changed as people and grown older .. a sad day, indeed

So you've been happy with the direction of the show the last few seasons? Reatching the first four years, Lorelai and her mom had grown a lot and moved towards a new relationship -- not that they would ever get along perfectly -- but they'd confronted the past and come to an understanding and were relating more. Now they've just regressed. Rory rebelled with Dean who had to win over Lorelai. Then the same thing with Jess and now with Logan. They just keep repeating themselves and reverting back to the way things were at the beginning rather than actually letting the characters grow -- like the way Rory went to college but came home every five minutes to do laundry etc so they could pretend nothing had changed. But in any case, Sherman-Palladino is clearly out of gas. So maybe she cna recharge and launch a new show with her full attention in a year or two.

And hey, the hapless Baltimore Orioles just beat the Yankees last night in a painful loss (for me).

A good place to watch movies and TV shows. They have a good comment and a rating system which makes finding good video easier.
