"King Kong" A Monster On DVD

People wanted to dismiss King Kong as a flop because it didn't become the biggest grossing movie of all time. Heck, it wasn't even the top-grossing movie of the year, with Narnia and Harry Potter doing better worldwide. But Kong grossed more than $500 million around the world. And now Universal says Kong sold 6.5 million DVDs in its first week, grossing more than $100 million. Since movies like Kong often do tremendous business on DVD (often equal to its box office), it's very safe indeed to say this movie will gross $800 million worldwide. And months from now, director Peter Jackson will release a more elaborate boxed set that will pull in another $50 to $100 million worldwide, easy. Some flop.
