Pete Townsend: Great Concerts Are Overrated

An amusing interview with Pete Townsend and Roger Daltrey in the NY Daily News. Townsend justifies their bloated ticket prices by fiugring the fans who followed the Grateful Dead around probably spent $500 a show just to see them. (Uh, actually they probably slept in their VW vans and traded pot for tickets, but whatever.) Then Townsend says some of the best concerts he saw were disasters.
"To me, as a fan, it's as interesting to see a show that's a disaster as a show that's perfect. I remember seeing the Clash, and sometimes they'd be great and sometimes they'd be awful. That's just how it is with live shows.

"I started to get bored with Bruce Springsteen because I went to something like 20 shows and they were all great."
