Did Eddie Murphy Spoil His Oscar Hopes?

I don't watch any of the award shows but the big four: the Oscars, the Tonys, the Grammys and the Emmys. Life's too short and there are just too damn many of them. If I did watch the Globes et al, it would spoil the fun of watching the ones that truly matter. But in reading descriptions about the show, it sounds like Eddie Murphy was blase, boring and even a little obnoxious in his acceptance speech and comments afterwards. NOT a good idea. One little known factor in the Oscar race is your acceptance speech. Look genuinely excited, give a great and memorable speech and Oscar voters are likely to remember you kindly. Look bored by it all and they'll wonder why they should bother voting for you if you don't really care or think it's all silly. That's exactly what Eddie Murphy seemed to do. And in a tight race -- which is exactly what the supporting actor category is -- that can make all the difference.

I think that people always expect Eddie Murhpy to be the wild and funny guy. His acceptance speech would have been ok if he was not eddie murphy. I think people expect him to say something spectacular. But I think he is more bewildered by this sudden critical acclaim and honors that he has never gotten in his 25 year career.

Personally I was hoping to see more excitement, but that is not to say that he wasn't excited. People have said that he is a very introverted person when he is not performing, kind of like Robert Deniro who is completly different than his movie roles.
