Why Everyone Is Wrong About The Oscars Show #3

The third myth about this year's Oscars race: Ratings will drop because they didn't nominate blockbusters like King Kong. Ratings will drop because that's been the trend for TV shows and special events like the Oscars for the last two decades, not because of the individual movies nominated this year. (Everyone always points to the year of Titanic, the biggest hit of all time that came out at Christmas and peaked perfectly -- that's what is known as the exception to the rule.) No TV show today is bigger in the ratings than a similar TV show 20 years ago. American Idol isn't as big as The Cosby Show -- not even close. (And CSI isn't as big as ER was.) So the ratings will be lower. They'll also be some of the biggest ratings of any special this year, along with the Super Bowl. And King Kong instead of Munich wouldn't change that.
