Who Is Hollywood's Favorite Author?

The NYTimes says it might be W. Somerset Maugham, claiming he's at or near the top of the list of authors who have seen more of their stories turned into movies than anyone else. But surely Charles Dickens has had more films and TV movies and miniseries made from his books. "A Christmas Carol" alone has to be responsible for 10-20 different adaptations. (Not counting TV episodes inspired by it, either.) IMDB certainly agrees with me. Maugham has 120 projects listed; Dickens has almost twice as many, with 234. Stephen King is at 105, and counting.
