Fugees On Your Phone
The Fugees are releasing three new songs through Verizon as a stop-gap until their new album. (Not because Verizon is giving them a lot of money, but because "It's so important for artists to utilize new technology as a creative medium as it becomes available," according to Lauryn Hill.) Cool for them, but if they really wanted to just reach out to the fans, they would put the songs on iTunes, not Verizon. Going with Verizon is just a commercial decision that cheats most fans out of a chance to hear the songs legally. I suppose they'll complain when bootlegs spread. More foolish comments from the group, which had one album but acts like they've had a storied career: "This is the only band I can think of that has the group thing but also has three strong individuals that are well-respected in their own right for what they do," said Wyclef Jean. Uh, he and Pras Michel didn't come within a mile of Hill's solo success. But regardless, what about N.W.A., the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, the Beatles, etc. etc.?
