The Grammys are next Wednesday at 8 p.m. on CBS. So far, I don't spot any up-and-comers who could get a big boost from performing a la Ricky Martin. Perhaps the bluegrass band Sugarland is the best bet for a Cinderella story. So here's the lineup so far:
Madonna and Gorillaz open the show with a duet (she'll be interacting with animated characters, not performing with Daomn Albarn et al).
Other performers include Kelly Clarkson, drug-free Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, U2 with Mary Blige, Coldplay, Faith Hill with Keith Urban, Christina Aguilera with Herbie Hancock, Sugarland, Jamie Foxx with Kanye West and an all-star tribute to Sly & The Family Stone featuring Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Joss Stone, John Legend, Maroon 5, Will.I.Am of Black Eyed Peas, Robert Randolph, Devin Lima of LFO (why?), Ciara, and Mariah Carey with the Hezekiah Walker & Love Fellowship Choir. Still no word on the obligatory classical music entry after which everyone stands and applauds because, you know, it's classical music and rock stars love that stuff.
