Surfing Through "Something New"

I find it hard to believe this movie will collapse so thoroughly at the box office as the numbers indicate. The two leads -- Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker -- are very good together, the script is smart (mostly for the pitfalls it avoids then for anything remarkable that happens) and the film fun. My Upper West Side audience burst into applause at the end, something that doesn't happen every day and should warm the hearts of anyone involved in making it. Word of mouth, at least, should be good. Surely this will be the default movie of choice on Super Bowl Sunday for the men and women who can't be bothered? Well recommended if you're looking for a light diversion.

I thought it was pretty routine, though Sanaa was sexy in an uptight sort of way.

Something New was a terrific movie. The best romantic comedy and onscreen chemistry between two stars (Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker are so great together) that I've seen in a long time.

It's a very sweet, funny, sexy, smart and touching movie.
