DGA Nominations Announced

The DGA has just named their top five directors of the year:

Babel, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
Dreamgirls, director Bill Condon
Little Miss Sunshine, directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris
The Departed, director Martin Scorsese
The Queen, director Stephen Frears

Since the Producers Guild gave these same five films their top nod, clearly they are the front runners for Best Picture. So if you want to be in the know come Oscar time, these are the films you should see. Obviously, one of them could drop out and be replaced by another. But see all of them and you'll be 90% of the way there, no matter what. At the moment, I could see a split, with "The Queen" or "Dreamgirls" winning Best Picture and Martin Scorsese Best Director or Scorsese and "The Departed" sweeping. I don't see Scorsese losing right now, since his campaign has been so much more dignified (no begging or demanding that he's "due") and his acceptance speeches have been so charming.
