Gorillaz Start Monkeying Around

Who am I to resist a bad headline? The Britpop band Blur once ruled the world, going toe-to-toe with Oasis in popularity and importance. But in the future it may best be remembered as the group that spawned Gorillaz. An animated band created by Blur singer Damon Albarn and Cibo Matto's Miho Hatori, visual artist Jamie Hewlett and an endless stream of guest collaborators, Gorillaz stunned everyone when its second album was more vital and interesting than most everything else out there. This casual stunt of a band now has a life of its own and this fall they'll be releasing a string of EPs, a band bio called "Rise Of The Ogres" and a DVD. A Gorillaz movie is the obvious next step, which is why it won't happen for a while, if ever: Gorillaz have never been obvious and what seemed like a silly spin on The Archies just gets better and better.
