I Lied

Personal affairs (a memorial for the father of a very close friend), numerous stories and preparations for leaving for London) made it impossible for me to even compile a list of my favorite CDs before going away. Perhaps the list doesn't even exist, which is certainly true in an existential way? I have a major interview to do on Tuesday in London and I've had to choose between properly preparing for that and finishing my list. My job, such as it is, won out. Please forgive me and know that I'm packing 30+ CDs for those final listens and double-checks so I can once and for all complete my Best CDs of 2006 (And Some Early Favorites of 2007) when I get back in a week. Cheers!
P.S. My blogging will of course be extremely curtailed if not nonexistent.

Don't forget to buy and set up a Slingbox at your sister's before you return!

If she has the money for both satellite tv and the slingbox, I will. If yuo access the slingbox, does it make the program play on the TV as well, or just on the computer you use to access it?

Depends how you set it up. For me, if the Slingbox is hooked up directly to my cable box (giving Pete access to all 500+ channels), then he controls my cable box and whatever he pulls up on his PC is what I see on my TV.

The other option (and the one I took), is simply splitting the cable before it gets to the cable box. One side goes to my cable box, one side goes to the Slingbox. This way Pete has independent tuner control and what he watches has no effect on what I'm watching. The drawback is he doesn't have access to digital stations, so he's limited to something like 80 channels.

Another option that I dreamed up would be to buy an additional cable box and hook the slingbox up through that. You'd have to pay the additional $5 per month, but it would allow independent access to all stations on both computer and tv simultaneously.

Hmm, so many possibilities.

Just get it done by the 26th. I want to watch Dag & Red at Oxford United on Sky that night!
