Brace Yourselves For "Comebacks" By "American Idol" Flops

Justin Guarini, where are you? That's the likely next step for "Idol" finalists who have disappeared: a "comeback." It's happening in the UK, where the very first runnerup in "Pop Idol" was the Tiger Beat-ish Gareth Gates, who went platinum with his first album but then disappeared. Now all of 22, he's got a new album and a documentary film about his dark years. Ironically, the usually savvy Simon Cowell thought Gates should have won and never got along with the champion Will Young, who came out right after being crowned the winner. Young has delivered a number of top-selling albums and just completed an arena tour, proving along with Kelly Clarkson that Idol winners can have genuine careers.
